The Marimekko Rusakko fabric is adorned with a bold print designed by Aino-Maija Metsola. Printed in Helsinki, Finland, the cotton fabric is finished with an acrylic coating that is easy to keep clean – the fabric is ideal for sewing a custom tablecloth.
Designed in 2021, the ornamental, somewhat abstract Rusakko print nods to folklore, only revealing its motif upon further inspection: the print depicts a big hare crouching amongst the shrubs, ready to leap at any moment – the name Rusakko translates to “brown hare”. Aino Maija Metsola drew the original design on paper with a bottle pen marker and a paintbrush, after which she digitally coloured it with vibrant, strong hues.
